Ahead of Vinayaka Chathurthi and idol processions thereafter, city police organised a meeting with members of the Muslim community here on Wednesday seeking their cooperation for the smooth conduct of the festival and the rallies.

The over an hour-long meeting at the police commissionerate was presided over by Commissioner of Police Shailesh Kumar Yadav.

The importance of inter-religious harmony and participation of members of other communities in the festival were driven home.

Security arrangements

The security-related arrangements to be made for the processions and the routes to be taken were also explained by the Commissioner.

The participants were asked to get in touch with the Commissioner or the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) in case they had any information.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Abhinav Kumar and senior police officers were present. Similar meetings are to be held with other minority and Hindu groups.
