The School Education Department authorities conducted a meeting with the headmasters of government and aided schools falling under the Tiruchi Educational District on Monday to review the performance in the Plus Two examinations.
Chief Educational Officer K. Swaminathan interacted with the headmasters seeking their inputs while analysing the reasons for the drop in the overall pass percentage of the Tiruchi revenue district besides the reasons for the high failures in Mathematics in the Plus Two examinations.
The overall pass percentage of the Tiruchi revenue district in 2009-10 Plus Two examinations was 88.2 per cent, which was lower than the previous year when the pass percentage was 90.05 per cent.
Officials said they had targeted an overall pass percentage of 93 in Plus Two exams and attributing the drop to the high failures in mathematics.
The authorities said separate meeting with the headmasters of government and aided schools falling under the Musiri and Lalgudi educational districts would be conducted in the coming days following by a subject-wise review.
Meeting would be conducted to review the performance of the district in the SSLC examinations and the reasons for the high failures in science subject this year.
A marginal rise was perceptible in the overall pass percentage in government schools in the district in the SSLC examinations this year.
The pass percentage in government schools this year was 86.26 per cent as compared to 84.96 per cent last year. A total number of 13,351 students from 121 government schools appeared for the examination this year of which 11,517 of them emerged successful.
Musiri educational district has the maximum number of 50 government schools, followed by the Tiruchi educational district which has 43 government schools and Lalgudi educational district with 28.
Interestingly of the four students, who shared the first rank at the district level in the SSLC exam this year, one was from a government school. The district level second rank was shared by two students with one of them from a government school.
The pass percentage of the Adi Dravidar Welfare Schools in the district was 84.21 per cent this year in the SSLC exam. Of the 1,007 students from 17 Adi Dravidar Welfare Schools who appeared for the examination, as many as 848 of them emerged successful.
The pass percentage of the lone Government Girls Higher Secondary School for the Blind at Puthur in the city this year was 92 per cent. S. Rubini of the school came on top securing 408 marks.
The overall pass percentage of the 91 aided schools this year was 94.87 percent. Of the 17,826 students from aided schools who sat for the exam, a total number of 16,911 of them passed.
