Medical college hostel inaugurated

A hostel for the post-graduate students and internees of the K.A.P. Viswanatham Government Medical College, was declared open here on Saturday.

The hostel, comprising two blocks, located at the campus of the Annal Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital, have been constructed well ahead of the schedule at an outlay of Rs. 2.89 crore.

The hostel has 124 rooms, indicating that 124 students and internees would be accommodated at these blocks. Dining hall, recreation hall and kitchen room have also been provided.

Started in May 2009, the work was scheduled to be completed around July. But the works have been completed well ahead of the schedule, according to R. Thangaprakasam, Superintending Engineer, Building Construction and Maintenance, Tiruchi Circle of Public Works Department.

K. N. Nehru, State Transport Minister, declared open the hostel in the presence of M. R. K. Pannerselvam, State Health Minister and N. Selvaraj, State Forests Minister.

M. A. Aleem, Dean in-charge, was also present.
