As part of its continuing measures to check the spread of dengue, Tiruchi Corporation has set up special medical camps at 18 places across the city to screen patients with fever and provide them treatment locally.
The move, corporation officials, said was intended to reach out to the masses, especially the poor, to extend them treatment closer to their homes. The special camps, which opened on Saturday, would function for the next two weeks. Corporation Commissioner V.P.Thandapani, who inspected a special camp along with R.Manoharan, MLA, at Khajapettai Corporation School and Natharsha Pallivasal, said that private doctors have also been roped in for conducting the camps along with the corporation medical officers.
Adequate stocks of essential medicines and necessary basic infrastructure have been provided at the camps.
Corporation employees, nursing students, Anganwadi workers and members of neighbourhood committees would fan out to households in the respective areas to identify and refer them to the special camps for treatment.
While six of the camps function in Ariyamangalm zone, five function in Golden Rock, four in Srirangam and three in K.Abishekapuram. Some of the camps are located at places where incidence of fever was high.
The camps are being held at the following places in the four zones of the city: Srirangam zone – Corporation Nehruji School, Melakondayampettai; Natharsha Pallivasal, Chidambaram Mahal, Mela Chinthamani; and Corporation School, Pulimandapam Road, Amma Mandapam.
Ariyamangalam Zone – Government Higher Secondary School, Anna Nagar, Mela Ambikapuram; Maduram Middle School, Kamaraj Nagar; Seven Dolours School, Subbaiah Street; Corporation School (South), Muslim Street, Varaganeri; Panchayat Union Elementary School, Pappakurichi and Corporation School, Khajapettai.
Golden Rock Zone – Corporation School, Mela Panchapur; YAM School, Anthoniyar Kovil Street, Airport; Corporation School, Pattathamal Street, Airport; Corporation Dispensary, K.Sathanur; and Panchayat Office, Mela Kalkandarkottai.
K.Abishekapuram Zone – Corporation School, Woraiyur; Corporation School, Middle Street, Pirattiyur; and Kuthbisha Nagar Mosque.
