In July 2013, the MCI approved increasing intake to 150

A surprise inspection was carried out by a Medical Council of India (MCI) team at K.A.P. Viswanatham Government Medical College and Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH) here on Thursday.

In July 2013, the MCI had given its approval for increasing the number of seats in the college from 100 to 150.

Every year, before admission of students, the council inspects approved colleges to ensure that infrastructure facilities and staff strength is concomitant with the number of seats. Recognition for the number of seats in the colleges will be continued only if the facilities are satisfactory. A group of three from MCI inspected the college and hospital, visited different departments and checked the infrastructure and equipment, and met the faculty and other staff.

The inspection is likely to continue on Friday.
