A large number of people witnessed the marriages of two visually challenged couple at the BHEL Manamagizh Mandram here on Sunday organised by K.Selvaraj of BHEL, a social activist and eye donation motivator. P.Nainar, General Manager (HR), BHEL, was the chief guest and gave the `thaalis' to the visually challenged bridegrooms S.Kalidas (26) of Karur and P.Arjunan (25) of Tiruchi who tied the knots on D.Palaniammal of Karur and P.Parvathi of Nagapattinam respectively. The parents of the couples attended the marriage and blessed the newly married couples.

Kavignar Nandalala, State deputy general secretary of the Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers Association, presided over the function. R.Selvarani, PA (Accounts) to District Collector and others spoke.

Mr.Selvaraj said that bridegroom Kalidas and Arjunan were earning income by selling incense sticks and other items. He said that Mr K.Govindarajan, chairman of Tamil Nadu Continuing Board of Education, distributed welfare assistance to 300 visually challenged persons and Mr P.Gnanadurai Michael presented certificates to 25 families who donated their eyes.

Mr Selvaraj, said that he had so far conducted marriages for 56 visually challenged couples. He pointed out that eye donation had become a mass movement and explained the importance of vision.
