Many cooperative banks getting renovated in Tiruchi

The Department of Cooperation has planned to modernise the Manapparai Urban Co-operative bank.

The bank will be modernised at an investment of Rs. 12 lakh, said T.P. Poonachi, Minister for Khadi and Village Industries, while speaking at the 61 All India Co-operative Week celebrations here on Wednesday.

The Uyyakondan Thirumalai and Kallakudi Primary Agriculture Co-operative Credit Societies will be modernised with air-conditioning and other facilities, he said.

The Minister said e-governance has been introduced in 14 Primary Agriculture Co-operative Credit Societies in Srirangam taluk.

The Srirangam Urban Co-operative Bank has been modernised at a cost of Rs. 16.22 lakh with air-condition facility. Tiruchi and Irudayapuram Co-operative Banks have been modernised at a cost of Rs. 15 lakh with air-condition facility.

The Minister said that crop loan of Rs. 129.65 crore had been distributed among 25,743 farmers through Primary Agriculture Co-operative Credit Societies in Tiruchi district till October 31. This is against the target of Rs. 202 crore to be disbursed as crop loan for 2014-15 by the PACCS. Crop loan of Rs. 14.79 crore had been disbursed among 3,435 Adi Dravida farmers.

The Minister distributed shields to 14 co-operative banks and societies for their best performance. He distributed prizes to student winners in competitions held in connection with co-operative week celebrations.

N.R. Sivapathi, MLA, and Jayashree Muralidharan, District Collector, participated in the function.
