A gang sped away with Rs. 10 lakh after snatching it from a Cuddalore-based jeweller on the Manapparai–Kulithalai road near Manapparai on Monday. Police sources said Palanirajan, the jeweller, came in a car along with two others to Manapparai upon receiving a call apparently asking him to bring cash to buy gold jewellery. Palanirajan, who had apparently been in touch with a person for some time now, who had made the call, came with cash and halted at a spot on the Manapparai–Kulithalai road. Even as they waited, another vehicle pulled over near them. A gang of six to seven members stepped out of it and forced the jeweller and the other two into their vehicle. They abandoned them some distance away and fled with the cash. Senior police officers conducted inquiries. On a complaint from the jeweller, Manapparai police have registered a case under IPC section 395 (dacoity) and 420 (cheating).
