A 32-year-old man paid a price with his life for trying to broker peace between two groups at Bikshandarkoil on the city’s outskirts on Friday.
The victim, P.Manohar of Bikshandarkoil, died of stab wounds at a private hospital here.
According to police sources, M.Rengaraj – the complainant – and his friends were having a talk at Keela Street on Friday night, when R.Ramakrishnan (25) and three others came there with the alleged intention of eliminating Rengaraj due to previous enmity.
A wordy altercation broke out and Manohar intervened to strike a compromise between them. Suddenly, Ramakrishnan, named as the first accused, allegedly stabbed him in his stomach with a knife. The other accused too allegedly assaulted Manohar in which he sustained severe bleeding injuries.
The Kollidam police have booked a case under IPC sections 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting armed with deadly weapon), 294 (b) (utter obscene words in a public place) and 302 (murder) and arrested Ramakrishnan on the charge of killing Manohar.
The other three accused were yet to be arrested.
