A 29-year-old man who came out on bail in an attempt to murder case was hacked to death by an armed gang on a school ground at Burma Colony in Gundur on the city’s outskirts on Thursday.

Of the six persons named as accused, five of them were secured on Friday on the charge of murdering V. Suresh, a labourer of Burma Colony in Gundur.

One of the accused Rajmohan is reported to be absconding. Previous enmity is suspected to be the cause behind the murder.

Suresh, against whom an attempt to murder case had been booked earlier, came out on bail from the Central Prison here on Thursday.

According to police, Suresh bore a grudge after his elder brother Kumaresan was arrested recently on a complaint preferred by Rajmohan after a ruckus during a function.

Upon coming out of bail, Suresh reportedly wanted to settle scores with those who were the cause for the arrest of his brother Kumaresan, police said.

The accused, who came to know about this, pre-empted by attacking Suresh and his friend Manikandan with sharp weapons. Suresh was killed on the spot.

The Navalpattu police have registered a case of murder.
