The blood sample of a Malaysian citizen, who has been admitted to a private hospital here with the symptoms of H1N1 virus, has been sent to the National Institute of Virology, Pune, for tests.
Shironmani (64), who was on a pilgrimage to India, has been put on ventilator support in an isolated ward. She was admitted to the hospital with high fever, sore throat, cough and cold about four days ago.
Although the preliminary investigation indicated it was a case of H1N1 virus, the officials said it could be confirmed only after the receipt of report from Pune. But as a precautionary measure, she was being extended treatment for curing swine flu.
Although she was still on ventilator, she had shown improvement.
Her condition was stated to be stable. It was not clearly known where she got the infection as she went to various places in the country for pilgrimage.
Meanwhile, Prabhakar (37) of Thiruvanaikoil, who was discharged from a city hospital on Tuesday after being admitted with the symptoms of swine flu, has been shifted to a private hospital in Coimbatore on the request of his relatives where he was put in an isolated ward.
However, his condition was stated to be stable. He was under close observation.
I. Raveendran, Deputy Director of Health, Tiruchi, told The Hindu that there was no need for worry as both patients were recovering well.
As a precautionary measure, relatives of the affected patients and those involved in their treatment had been provided with Tamiflu tablets. Medical officers and private hospitals had been asked to report fever cases immediately.
He said an isolated ward had been established at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital for treating H1N1 virus patients. If anyone affected with high fever, throat pain and cough, he or she should consult doctors immediately.
