Madras Christian College (MCC), Tambaram, won the overall championship at the “Catharsis 2K13” two-day State-level inter-collegiate cultural meet organised by the Department of Social Work of Bishop Heber College here recently. They won a cash prize of Rs. 10,000.
Loyola College, Chennai, finished runner up to pocket a cheque of Rs. 5,000. J. Anton Robert of Loyola College and Charis of MCC were adjudged “Mr. and Ms. Catharsis” respectively.
The festival roofed a wide range of events from social work perspective and about 500 students from 14 colleges across the State displayed their talent.
The events, which marked the festival included free association, thematic assessment, collage on the topic “terrorism”, group singing on “violence against women”, documentary, poster presentation on “child abuse”, dumb charades, short story writing, puppetry, mime on “commercialisation of education”, cartoon sketching, street play, folk dance, and quiz. There was a surprise event for the faculty members who accompanied the children teams.
D. Paul Dayabaran, principal, presided over the inaugural. Parameshwaran, assistant executive engineer, ONGC, Nagapattinam, who is running an orphanage, inaugurated the festival. Fr. Partick Antonyraj, director, Vazhikatti, Don Bosco, was the chief guest at the valediction.
