The City police made a huge haul of other State lottery tickets from a house near Gandhi Market in the City on Wednesday, and arrested three persons in connection with the stocking and sale of the lotteries.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team raided a house located at Mannarpillai Street which was apparently used by the accused as a stocking point. The raid resulted in the seizure of huge number of bundles of other state lottery tickets, the sale of which is banned in the State. Apart from the lottery tickets, a computer and two laptops were also seized from the house. The value of the seized lottery tickets were estimated to be around Rs.15 lakhs.

Police suspect the accused were acting as wholesale agents, procuring the banned lottery tickets possibly from Kolkatta, and distributing the same to retail sellers in Karur, Perambalur and the rural parts of Tiruchi district.

Police picked up three persons, including Rajmohan, who was acting as the wholesale agent, and his employees Sekar and Ashok.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) Rupesh Kumar Meena, who inspected the seized lotteries, said a detailed investigation would be taken up on the modus operandi of the accused. The network of the banned lottery ticket sellers would be tracked down and action would be initiated against all involved in the racket, he said.
