Lorry owners seek security for employing load men in Tiruchi

December 25, 2014 08:40 am | Updated 08:40 am IST - TIRUCHI:

Members of the Tiruchi City Lorry Owners’ Association on Wednesday sought the immediate intervention of Collector Jayashree Muralidharan to provide security to them for employing new load men.

About 80 persons, including V. Sridhar, secretary of the association, and Ve. Govindarajulu, State treasurer, Tamilnadu Vanigar Sangankalin Peramaippu met her and explained the dispute between the goods lorry owners and load men over wages.

Claiming that the existing load men had been demanding 200 per cent increase in wages, they said it was unreasonable especially when the business was not doing well.

They had threatened the owners with dire consequences if they employed new load men.

The owners were not in a position to effect huge increase in wages.

Hence, the Collector should take steps to prove protection to the transport owners and those newly employed by them.

Meanwhile, Ms. Muralidharan has arranged for a tripartite talk here on Friday. The Revenue Divisional Officer, Tiruchi, will preside over it to find an amicable solution to the issue.
