An LKG student died after being knocked down by a school van at Narangiyampatti village, a few kilometres from here, on Friday evening. The five-year-old boy, K.Sethu Madhavan, had just alighted from the van to reach home. The student of a private nursery school at Andakulam was the last one to be dropped. Even as the boy was crossing the road, the van driver moved the vehicle without noticing the kid. The boy was knocked down by the vehicle and its driver, Natesan, immediately fled the spot abandoning the vehicle.

The boy died on the way to Pudukottai Government Hospital. The Thirugokarnam police are investigating.
