Polling in 530 polling stations, including 214 sensitive polling stations, in Tiruchi district will be webcast and could be monitored directly by the Election Commission offices in New Delhi and Chennai, besides the Collector’s Office here.
About 560 teachers of the Education for All Scheme, trainers from teacher training institutions and part-time teachers would be deployed to webcast the polling in these stations, Collector Jayashree Muralidharan said on Saturday.
Speaking at a training programme for the officials responsible for webcasting here, Ms. Muralidharan told the teachers that the webcasting should be uninterrupted.
Those involved in the exercise should discharge their duty with diligence. If they face any problem in the process, they should immediately contact the Election Control Room for assistance, she said.
She also told the teachers to ensure that the webcast should clearly show the faces of voters during the polling process. Except polling station officers, nobody should use mobile phones inside the booths, she said.
Later, speaking at a training programme for micro observers who are to be deployed for monitoring the election in sensitive polling stations, Ms. Muralidharan said micro observers will function directly under the control of the General Observer appointed by the Election Commission. In case of any problem in the polling, the micro observers should take decisions in consultation with the General Observer.
Micro observers will be responsible for the incidents during the polling and they should ensure that a mock polling was held at 6 a.m. in the polling stations in front of agents of candidates.
They should inform the Returning Officer if any person, whose name has been deleted from the electoral rolls or those who have migrated, turned up for voting, she said.
