The district administration has notified the places where Vinayaga idols, which are to be taken out in ceremonial processions as part of the Vinayagar Chathurthi festival next month, are to be immersed in water bodies.
All idols from Tiruchi City should be immersed in the Cauvery River near Mela Chinthamani.
The following are the other designated places for immersion: Uyyakondan River (for idols from Somarasampettai); Peruvalai Vaical (Manachanallur); Ayyan Vaical (Lalgudi); Cauvery River at Vengur (Tiruverambur and Thuvakudi); Cauvery River (Navalpattu, Siruganur, Samayapuram, Musiri, Kattuputhur, Thathaiyengarpet and Thuraiyur); Puliancholai Vaical (Uppilliyapuram); Mamundi River (Manapparai); Ponnaniyar (Vaiyampatti) and Bhoothanayaki Amman Temple Tank (Thuvarankurichi).
Collector Jayashree Muralidharan, in a press release, said the Vinayaga idols should be immersed at the designated places only. Only clay idols should be immersed.
Idols with chemical paints should not be immersed, she said.
