Land handed over

March 22, 2010 04:31 pm | Updated 04:31 pm IST - TIRUCHI:

A three-acre land has been provided for the construction of own building for the Regional Transport Office (RTO) at Ariyalur.

The Ariyalur district administration has formally handed over the ‘poramboke' site to the Transport Department to enable it to construct a new building to house the Ariyalur RTO. The RTO is presently functioning in a rented building at Kallankurichi in Ariyalur taluk.

The site is located along the Ariyalur-Tiruchi main road near Keezhapalur. Transport Department authorities here said the Transport Commissioner at Chennai has already been conveyed about the handing over of the site by the district administration.

With the site having been given, an estimate would be sought from the Public Works Department for the construction of RTO building along with testing track. The estimate would be forwarded through the Transport Commissioner to the State Government seeking sanction of funds. The building construction work would commence only after the funds were sanctioned, the authorities said. A senior Department official said the work on laying a new testing track at the Tiruchi RTO in Pirattiyur was in an advanced stage of completion.
