The functioning of the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital (MGMGH) was affected for some time on Tuesday night as relatives of S. Sarath Kumar (27) of Suriyur laid siege to the hospital following his death after being admitted to the hospital.

According to sources, Sarath Kumar, who consumed poison, was admitted to the hospital a few days ago. As he could not response to the treatment, he died in the hospital on Tuesday night, the sources said.

However, claiming that he died due to the negligence of doctors and nurses, his relatives laid siege to the hospital.

They reportedly abused a few staff members and a postgraduate student.

Meanwhile, aggrieved over the protest, a section of doctors and nurses met Marry Lilly, Dean of MGMGH, and demanded protection to them on Wednesday.

They also demanded action against those threatened them.

Some members pointed out a large number of vacancies for various posts in the hospital.

Dr. Lilly promised them to look into their grievances.
