Hours after a woman school teacher was kidnapped by four persons here on Thursday, a special police team rescued the abducted teacher and arrested the culprits.
The school teacher Dhanalakshmi was proceeding on a motorcycle ridden by her brother Muthukumar in the morning hours when the offence took place.
A person alighted from a car parked nearby and sprayed chilli powder on the face of Muthukumar. Three other persons came out of the vehicle and kidnapped the teacher in the car.
A complaint was immediately lodged with the Cantonment Police station. A special team was immediately constituted on the instruction of the Commissioner of Police.
Based on secret information received hours later, the team acted swiftly and arrested four persons – Gajendran, Mohamed Nazir, Arvind and Dwarakan - and rescued the kidnapped teacher.
Gajendran, the prime accused, had a liking for Dhanalakshmi who was his aunt’s daughter.
Gajendran had reportedly kidnapped the school teacher with help of his friends after learning that the teacher’s marriage with another person had been fixed, a police press release said.
Gajendran confessed to the team of having committed the offence, the release further said adding that all the four accused were remanded. The kidnapped teacher was later handed over to her parents.
