In an attempt to get a wider market reach, the Khadi Kraft has opened temporary khadi sales depots at the offices of the Tiruchirapalli City Corporation and the Vaiyampatti, Manikandam, Lalgudi, Andhanallur, and Manachanallur panchayat unions in the district ahead of the Deepavali festival. A retail outlet has been opened at the Collector’s Office too in the city.

The special festival discount sale of Khadi Kraft showrooms in the city, Tiruverumbur, and Manapparai, opened on Gandhi Jayanti on Wednesday.

R. Manoharan, Chief Whip, offered floral tributes to a portrait of Mahatma Gandhi and inaugurated the festival sale at the outlet near the Railway Junction in the city.

Khadi Kraft has been set a sales target of Rs. 1.50 crore for khadi in the district this financial year. Although set with a similar target for the previous financial year in the district, the khadi outlets could only manage sales estimated at Rs. 73.26 lakh.

The retail outlets sell various products of the Tamil Nadu Khadi and Village Industries Board, including khadi and polyester, khadi silk, woollen, and leather items. About 30 per cent discount is offered on khadi, cotton, polyester, and silk products. Officials said new designs of silk saris and readymade shirts had arrived this year.
