Devotees climbing up the steps to reach the rockfort temple in scorching sun could look forward to some relief. The temple authorities have laid carpets on the steps this summer.

The carpet has been set up at two places to a cumulative length of 155 feet. It covers the pathway on the manimandapam area and 125 steps on the Uchi Malai leading to the Sri Uchi Pillaiyar shrine. N. Suresh, Assistant Commissioner of the temple, said the steps on Uchimalai have been divided into two segments for regulating the movement of crowd. At present, carpet has been provided in the upward direction and steps were taken to provide the facility down the Uchimalai.

Water is being poured on the carpet every couple of hours, according to C. Aravanaichelvan, Peshkar of the temple.
