Strictly adhere to Election Commission’s stipulations in the run up to the Lok Sabha polls, District Election Officer and Collector S.M. Jayandhi told representatives of political parties here on Wednesday.
Nominations, in prescribed forms, would be accepted during office hours between March 29 and April 5. Open a bank account at least a day before nomination and operate that account for all poll-related expenditure, Ms. Jayandhi said.
While general candidates must remit Rs. 25,000 as election deposit, those belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes need to deposit only Rs. 12,500 towards nomination fee. For Independents and those representing unrecognised political parties, they need to be sponsored by at least 10 eligible voters.
Only five persons would be allowed inside the Returning Officer’s chambers while filing nomination papers for every candidate.
District Revenue Officer M. Aruna, Personal Assistant to Collector (General) Anita, Personal Assistant to Collector (Elections) Ravi, and tahsildar (Elections) Ramkumar were present during the deliberations.
