Orientation camps for the over 1.25 lakh candidates who have registered for the three-day mega job fair of the DMK in the district from February 26 to 28 were conducted at ten centres by hundreds of college and school teachers on Tuesday.

Over 73,000 unemployed youths received job offers through such fairs conducted in six districts in the recent past, DMK Rajya Sabha member, Kanimozhi said after inaugurating one of the orientation camps in the city. “Take full advantage of the opportunity,” she told the participants of the mega fair that will mark the 86th birthday celebrations of Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi.

Investments to the tune of Rs. 48,000 crores had poured into the state from industrial houses around the globe in the last four years. Since the industries were trying to recruit people from other states, defying the very purpose of accelerating employment opportunities for people of Tamil Nadu, the mega fairs were being conducted to provide them access to the abundant talent available in rural parts. Ms. Kanimozhi was hopeful of replicating the success of earlier fairs in Tiruchi.

Advising participants to equip themselves for the recruitment process through the orientation camps, Ms. Kanimozhi called upon youths, particularly girls, to be mentally prepared for jobs in other cities or towns.

K. N. Nehru, State Transport Minister, expected the camp to benefit about 40,000 unemployed youths.

The District Collector T. Soundiah admired the novelty in the birthday celebrations of the Chief Minister.

Rev. Fr. Bosco, Suresh Kumar, Regional Deputy Director of Employment; T. Nallathambi, Director of Collegiate Education – Officer on Special Duty; K. Swaminathan, Chief Educational Officer; K. Meena, Principal, Shrimati Indira Gandhi College and others involved in the conduct of the fair were present on the occasion.

Later, Ms. Kanimozhi visited the other orientation centres: Shrimati Indira Gandhi College and National College Higher Secondary School in the city and at other institutions in Manachanallur, Lalgudi, Thuraiyur, Musiri, Manapparai and Tiruverumbur towns.
