The State Information and Public Relations Department launched an awareness campaign urging citizens to exercise their franchise. The campaign in progress from March 18 will conclude on April 21.

As part of the campaign, elocution, essay writing, and slogan writing competitions will be organised for school and college students. A propagation van that screens awareness videos of prominent stars has so far covered central bus stand, Bheemanagar, Inamkulathur, Periya nayagichatram, Subramaniapuram and Ponmalaipatti areas in the city. The 52-minute video that goads people to exercise their franchise without fail features boxer Mary Kom, squash player Dipika Pallikal, cricketer Dinesh Karthik, Governor, Chief Electoral Officer, Home Secretary, and Chief Secretary among others. Actor Kamal Hassan, a special attraction of the video programme, cautions voters on the bane of cash for votes and conveys the message ‘selling your votes is selling your future’.
