S.K. Mittal, accompanied by senior officials, to do inspection tomorrow

The track doubling work in the Kallakudi Palanganatham–Ariyalur section in the chord line has been completed and the mandatory inspection by S.K. Mittal, Commissioner of Railway Safety, Southern Circle, Bangalore, will take place on Tuesday.

The 25-km long section between Kallakudi Palanganatham – Ariyalur section formed part of the 298-km long Villupuram–Dindigul doubling project executed by the Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL). Already, the 25-km track doubling work between Valadi and Kallakkudi Palanganatham was commissioned last year.

The newly laid Kallakudi Palanganatham–Ariyalur section accounted for seven major bridges, 31 minor bridges, two new station buildings — Kallagam and Sillakudi.

A dozen level-crossing gates have been set up — manned level crossings 8 and unmanned level crossings 4.

Railway sources told The Hindu that the inspection of the newly laid track on motor trolley will commence from Ariyalur at 8 a.m. on Tuesday. Speed trial will be held at a speed of 100 km per hour in the afternoon.

M. Satish, Chief Administrative Officer — Construction, Southern Railway; Manjula Rangarajan, Divisional Railway Manager; and Pradeep Gaur, Chief Project Manager, RVNL; will accompany Mr. Mittal during the inspection.

Meanwhile, the Tiruchi Railway Division, in a press release, has cautioned the people from crossing the newly laid track or work in its proximity throughout Tuesday.
