Jothimani gets Congress ticket for Karur Lok Sabha seat

The Congress has fielded S. Jothimani, a close associate of the party vice-president Rahul Gandhi and the national secretary of the Mahila Congress, in Karur Lok Sabha constituency.

This is Jothimani’s second outing in the poll fray. She unsuccessfully contested from the Karur Assembly constituency in the 2011 Assembly elections.

Ms. Jothimani commenced her political career as councillor of Paramathi panchayat union for two terms from 1996 – 2006.

She held various posts in the Youth Congress — Karur district secretary, State vice-president, national secretary, and national general secretary. She served as returning officer for the Youth Congress elections in Kerala state.

Ms. Jothimani is a media panellist on national media on State issues.

Ms. Jothimani has made contributions in the field of Tamil literature.

She has written three books Ottrai Vaasanai , Sithirak Koodu , a novel, and Nee Pirakkum Mun a book in sharing her experience, apart from a good number of short stories.

Ms. Jothimani told The Hindu that her major achievement was getting a permanent stay for sand mining in river Amaravathi in the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court after a three year continuous struggle.
