All roads in the temple town led to the Boys Higher Secondary School – the venue of the job fair – that was teeming with fresh and experienced candidates from Tiruppur, Theni, Dindigul, Nagapattinam, Madurai, Perambalur, Thanjavur and Tiruchi. The 24,000 job seekers and the 128 recruiters made the event organised by the Departments of Labour Welfare and Industries with the assistance of district administration, mega in every respect.

The academic qualification of candidates registered for the job mela varied from basic literacy to engineering graduation. .

Equally varied were the jobs on offer across sectors – automobile, engineering, electronics, textiles, pharmaceuticals, logistics, and realty. Some big industrial houses took part in the fair.

The venue was abuzz even before the commencement of the mela with candidates making a beeline to register their names for the around 9,000 jobs that were up for grabs.

Separate stalls were put up on the school ground for the candidates to obtain registration forms based on their respective academic qualifications.

There were separate stalls for those with engineering degrees, graduation and post graduation, basic literacy to Plus Two, and diploma qualifications. Different colour forms based on qualifications were given.

Sufficient numbers of registration forms were printed anticipating a large turnout, a senior official of the Department of Employment and Training said.

A separate assistance desk guided candidates based on their qualification to approach the respective block where the recruiters were accommodated.

Announcements were made repeatedly through a public address system from a separate place regarding the registration formalities to be completed before approaching the recruiters.

“I came to the fair seeking better avenues,” said Tiruchi-based Khurshid Bhanu, a commerce graduate, who had also completed Desk Top Publishing.

A differently-abled candidate with seven years of experience, Ms.Bhanu was one among the many scouting for a good opening in the accounting field.
