Jewellery burglary case: kingpin of gang held

Bhool Singh (61), the brain behind the major burglary at Amar Jewellers in the city has been nabbed along with two members of his gang.

A special team led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Gnana Sivakumar arrested Bhool Singh, Dharan Singh and Chandan Singh at New Panvel, Mumbai, on February 11, and recovered 3 kg gold from their possession. They were remanded here in judicial custody on Monday. The police had earlier recovered 1.5 kg gold from the two other accused: Mohan Singh and Basanth Lal, arrested last month at Meerut in Uttar Pradesh and Ambikapur in Jharkhand State respectively.

These five accused were involved in various burglary cases in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharastra and Uttar Pradesh.

Interrogation

Their modus operandi was to visit various places in the guise of pilgrims or traders, and execute opportunities for stealing valuables. During interrogation, the accused had revealed their involvement in snatching of valuables as well, police said.

According to the complainant, 40 kg gold went missing in the heist. Efforts have been initiated to recover 1.5 kg of stolen gold that Bhool Singh had sold in Kanpur, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Crime and Traffic, S. Ramaiah, said, adding that special teams were in hot pursuit of the remaining accused spread across Northern States.
