The Joint Coordination Council (JCC) of Association of University Teachers (AUT) and Tamil Nadu Government College Teachers’ Association (TNGCTA) of Bharathidasan University (BARD) have proposed K. John Kumar, Head, Department of History, Bishop Heber College, as Senate nominee on the BDUs V-C search panel. The senate nominee would be selected at a special meeting on June 8.
Unanimous choice
The JCC BARD unanimously proposed the name of Prof. John Kumar, who had served a term in the Senate from 1989 to 1992 as Deputy Whip, to the search panel, assigning him the responsibility of identifying a candidate for the V-C post on merit.
In the event of a contest, there would be a secret ballot. The JCC-BARD, sources said, rely on the votes of members in the Senate, and the support of Professors and Heads of university departments.
The Senate nominee and two others: nominee of the Syndicate and nominee of the Government, who would be the convenor, would constitute the search panel.
The term of the present Vice-Chancellor K. Meena ends in mid-July.
The search panel is usually formed three months before the Vice-Chancellor demits office.
