District-level competition for Chief Minister’s Cup concludes in Tiruchi

It was seven days of action and excitement at the district-level rounds of the Chief Minister’s Trophy sports tournament, which concluded here on Wednesday.

The tourney, with total prize money of Rs. 4.59 lakh, attracted over 2,000 persons. It was organised by the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu, Tiruchi, and featured athletics, basketball, football, hockey, kabaddi, volleyball, tennis, table tennis, badminton and swimming for men and women below 25 years of age.

Cash awards of Rs. 1,000, Rs. 750, and Rs. 500 were presented to each of the first, second, and third prize winners in all the individual and team events. In athletics and swimming, the winner in each event qualified for the divisional-level contest while for other events selection was made on the basis of individual performance in the district-level meet.

“We expect the sportspersons selected from the district to excel in the divisional-level and State-level tournaments,” said P. Kalaiselvan, District Sports Officer.

Men: Badminton: Anna Stadium Badminton Club. Basketball: Jamal Mohamed College. Football: SDAT Sports Hostel, Tiruchi. Hockey: Joe Joe Hockey Academy. Kabaddi: Tiruchi City Club. Table tennis: Saranathan College of Engineering. Tennis: All Stars Officers Club. Volleyball: Jamal Mohamed College.

Women: Basketball: Liwin Club. Badminton: SDAT, Tiruchi. Football: Bishop Heber College. Hockey: Jamal Mohamed College. Kabaddi: Srirangam Girls Higher Secondary School. Table tennis: Royal Sports Club. Tennis: Anna Stadium Tennis Club. Volleyball: Amala Girls Higher Secondary School.
