International meet on Green Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry, Holy Cross College, Tiruchi, will organise an international conference on “Green Chemistry and Sustainable Environment” at the institution premises here on July 7 and 8. The conference is being organised as part of the platinum jubilee year celebrations of the Department of Chemistry that was started in 1935.

Around 200 delegates from within the country and abroad will take part in the two-day conference during which more than 100 papers would be presented. The conference would be sponsored by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, New Delhi, Defence Research Development Organisation, Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences and the Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology.

Papers would be presented on various themes of Green Chemistry such as Green catalysis, Bio-catalysis, Green solvents, Renewable sources of chemicals and Environmental concerns and Selective activation.

According to the conference convenor and faculty member of the Department of Chemistry, Dr. Felicia Rajammal Selvarani, experts from USA, Finland and Korea would make presentations on various aspects connected with Green Chemistry.

Emeritus Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering, San Diego State University, USA, Dr. G. Krishnamoorthy will deliver the keynote address at the inaugural function during which a souvenir will be released.

Dr. Selvam Parasuraman, Professor, Department of Chemistry and National Centre for Catalysis Research, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras; Dr. Subhash C. Mojumdar, Special Graduate Faculty, University of Guelph, Canada and Adjunct Professor, University of New Brunswick, Canada; Dr. S. Rengaraj, Marie Curie Experienced Research Fellow, Laboratory of Applied Environmental Chemistry, University of Eastern Finland and Dr. Selvaraj, Assistant Professor, School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Pusan National University, Republic of Korea will make presentations on different topics during the conference.

Dr. Paul P. Appasamy, Vice-Chancellor of Karunya University, Coimbatore will inaugurate the conference, while Professor S. Jayabaskaran Charles, Director of Collegiate Education, Chennai will deliver the valedictory address.
