Integrated market for used goods planned

December 30, 2014 11:01 am | Updated 11:01 am IST - TIRUCHI:

The Tiruchirapalli City Corporation (TCC) has proposed to set up a separate market for used and old goods at Panjappur in the outskirts of the city.

A proposal has been sent to the State government, seeking Rs.20 crore for the project under the Tamil Nadu Innovation Initiative. The main objectives of the project is to relocate shops involved in selling used vehicles, spares and goods, and sales and service from the centre of the city to the specially organised market place. The single market for all types of used products would help both the traders and buyers.

V.P.Thandapani, Commissioner, Tiruchi Corporation, told The Hindu that about 10 acres of land had been identified for the project. All necessary facilities would be established in the market. It would attract more people to utilise the facility for selling their used vehicles, spares and goods or to exchange them for a better price. The market would facilitate more people to start their own business. Traders involved in selling old spares for two-wheelers and four-wheelers, used electronic goods, used and pre-used bikes and cars, used cloths, and old wooden furniture would be motivated to move to the integrated market to be named Greenway Resale Park. Once established, the market would ensure neatness and cleanliness in the city. Besides, it would ensure free flow of traffic and pedestrian movement.

Mr.Thandapani said security and safety were the other prime components of the project. Infrastructure facilities such as roads, drains, streetlights, parking area, restaurant, rest rooms, internet browsing centre, medical shop, provision for water supply, solid waste management, fire service station, police outpost, and CCTV camera have also been planned at the proposed market. There would be a facility for weekly auction market for the disposal of used articles.
