Work on the Integrated Agriculture Extension Centre has been completed at Thalaignayiru in the district.
The infrastructure has been provided at an expenditure of ₹1.5 crore, which was contributed jointly by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development under its Rural Infrastructure Development Fund and National Agriculture Development Programme.
Thalaignayiru is one of the centres selected in the district for the facility. Work on another centre at Tirukadaiyur is nearing completion.
According to official sources, the centre ensures co-ordination by various departments in distribution of seeds, agricultural implements and fertilizer to farmers under a single roof. Hitherto, the agricultural inputs and implements were distributed by various departments at their offices or godowns located at different places but the integrated complex would facilitate smooth and expeditious stocking and distribution.
Officials of Agriculture, Horticulture, Agricultural Marketing and Agri Business would interact with the farmers at a common place. Issues such as crop protection, disease control or prevention could also be discussed at the complex.
