Tiruchi Chapter of the Indian Institute of Metals (IIMT) has received the annual Best Chapter Award for a record 13 time.

P.Soundararajan, Chapter Chairman, received the award during the National Metallurgists Day celebrations and annual technical meet 2012 at Jamshedpur from H.M. Nerukar, Managing Director of TATA Steel and IIM president, and Kamanio Chattopathyay, vice-president.

Mr.Soundararajan, who is also General Manager at BHEL-Tiruchi said the award was a result of team work. He dedicated the award to a team of past functionaries of the Chapter. The team comprised P.Nainar, R.Easwaran, S.Natarajan, A.Raja, S.Suresh and G.Rajendran.

Marwah, Secretary General of the Institute described Tiruchi Chapter as a model for all other chapters while De Sarkar, Joint Secretary and Treasurer, complimented Tiruchi Chapter for its consistent performance in the summit level. The more than 1,000 members in the fold of Tiruchi chapter also includes students. Student chapters were inaugurated at J.J. College of Engineering, Kumarasamy College of Engineering, CARE Institute, and many other engineering colleges, Mr.Soundararajan said, and thanked the Chapter Patron and Executive Director of BHEL Tiruchi A.V.Krishnan for constant support and encouragement. G.Rajendran, honorary secretary, N. Rajasekaran, honorary treasurer, and N. Parameswaran, Immediate past secretary, took part in the function.
