Indemnity for samba crop loss released

A sum of Rs.14.78 crore has been released towards indemnity for the loss in samba crop raised in 2012 in the district. The National Agricultural Insurance Company had sanctioned the sum towards the first instalment of the loss. The sum has been released to 75 primary agricultural cooperative credit and thrift societies which would disburse it to farmers. A total of 29,028 farmers in 15 firkas would get the indemnity, said C.Manoharan, District Collector.

In a release here on Thursday, the Collector said that the indemnity would be disbursed to 6,210 non-borrowers and 22,818 borrowers of farm loans. Farmers facing difficulty in getting the indemnity could contact the Deputy Registrar of Cooperatives Pudukottai by dialling 94427-58532; Aranthangi – 94428-57996, said K.V.S.Kumar, Joint Registrar of Cooperative Societies.
