The Indian Institute of Management-Tiruchi has decided to set up wi-fi facility on its new campus so as to provide seamless internet connectivity to the students.
A tender to that effect had been finalised and a Bengaluru-based company has secured the contract for setting up a high performance Information Technology compute at an estimate of about Rs. 13 crore.
Although it was decided to complete the tendering process earlier this year, it has delayed because of the model code of conduct in view of the recent elections to the State Assembly.
An informed source told The Hindu that the new campus would have modern IT infrastructure. The robust facility would be highly beneficial to students to derive maximum benefit of IT revolution.
Meanwhile, the shifting of new campus is to be delayed by three months mainly because of hurdles in awarding a few tenders because of State elections.
The IIM-T, which is functioning on the campus of the National Institute of Technology was planned to be shifted to the new campus, being constructed on 175 acres of land at Chinna Suriyur village near Bharathidasan University on Tiruchi-Pudukottai Road by June-July. However, it is likely to shifted new to the new site only in September or October.
A senior official of IIM-T told The Hindu that construction of academic block, administrative block, and faculty residential quarters had been completed. More than 95 per cent of the civil works were over.
However, the work related to provision of permanent and movable furniture was delayed because of enforcement of model code of conduct. The work would gain momentum in the days to come.
