The Indian Institute of Management-Tiruchi will increase the intake for its flagship postgraduate programme in management (PGP) from 110 to 180 from this academic year.
The approved batch size of the two-year full-time PGP had been 110 since the institute was launched in 2011.
Prafulla Agnihotri, director, IIM-T, told The Hindu on Monday that the institute has fulfilled all basic requirements for increasing the batch size. Increase in faculty and construction of permanent campus on 170 acres at Chinna Suriyur, which is nearing completion, facilitated the institute to increase the intake. Moreover, the feedback received from recruiters also played a role. The increase would not only benefit students across the country but also recruiters who could get more options and shortlist optimum number of candidates during campus recruitment.
The new permanent campus of the institute could accommodate 400 students. The decision to increase the intake further would depend upon the future expansion programmes of the campus. The institute was working out on a revised detailed project report to create more facilities at the permanent campus.
Admission process on
Mr. Agnihotri said the admission process for the new batch had started and was at an advanced stage. He hoped the new campus would be ready in September or October. The construction was going on at a brisk pace. Finishing works, setting up of information technology facilities and installation of furniture were under way and would be completed soon, he said.
