“I wish that I should die at the helm of the camera while directing a film. That is the extent of my love for cinema,” said director Myyskin while addressing media persons in the city on Thursday.
The Anjathe director was in Tiruchi to promote his latest venture, Onaayum Aattukuttiyum .
With Mysskin and Sri (of Vazhakku En 18/9 fame) in lead roles, the film is a dark thrilling tale about the tussle between good and evil named as a wolf and a kid (baby sheep).
The film, which released in theatres on September 27, has met with critical acclaim. Its USP is the absence of songs, including Mysskin’s trademark kutthu paatu , which had featured in all his earlier movies.
“My film has two central characters: an antagonist who is like a wolf and the protagonist who is like a kid. They portray real characters who exist in today’s world,” he said
Revealing the reason behind choosing music director Ilayaraja for scoring music, Mysskin said that none other than the maestro can score music for the film. “Only great music can communicate the ideas in the film which doesn’t have too many dialogues and that is why I chose Ilayaraja sir,” he said.
“Cinema is next to God. After the almighty in a place of worship, the second greatest thing that we all look up to is cinema,” said Mysskin while expressing the respect he has for the medium.
Sharing his experiences while making Onaayum Aattukuttiyum, he said that he had to cross several hurdles before the film saw light of the day. The failure of Mugamoodi had caused several setbacks and there were no takers for Onaayum Aattukuttiyum .“Isn’t a director allowed to make mistakes? Just because of one failure and huge financial loss (due to Mugamoodi), no one came forward to produce my new film. So, I decided to play the role of the antagonist in the film,” said Mysskin.
Lamenting the fact that no one wanted to purchase satellite rights for his film, he said there are no takers for good cinema nowadays. “There are many takers for so called ‘safe’ commercial movies. They are afraid to experiment with different cinema. What is the use of life if you don’t take a few risks?” he said.
Citing a latest release Moodar Koodam as an example of good cinema, he said by the time people came to theatres to watch the film after good media reviews, the film was removed from theatres. “In spite of the audience being ready, several other factors prevent the success of many good movies,” he said.
He said only due to positive reviews in the media his film slowly gained momentum with more persons visiting theatres.
