The stir by villagers of Vadakadu in protest against the proposed exploration of hydrocarbon in their agricultural fields entered the ninth day on Monday.

A large number of residents, mostly women, took out a procession carrying black flags.

They raised slogans urging the Centre to immediately shelve the project. Similarly, the residents of Karu Nallandarkollai also continued their stir.

At both the places, villagers have set up flex boards and banners in protest against the hydrocarbon exploration project.

Villagers, through public address system, expressed their anguish and apprehension over the project.

Police bandobust has been provided at these places as a precautionary measure.

At Vadakadu, the farmers wanted the district administration to sanction special permission to convene gram sabha meeting to adopt resolution against the exploration project.

They wanted the Central government to come with a categorical assurance that the project would be shelved.
