Adi-dravidars of Keeranur village near Tirumandurai in the district were on Monday given the house-site pattas from the district administration, after a prolonged gap of five decades.

“Though the State government had acquired, way back in 1960, a piece of land of 3.52 acres in extent in the village for distribution of house-site pattas to the Adi-Dravidars, it was not put to use. Nor did the allottees, due to various reasons, prefer to build their house at this site," says M. Vijayakumar, District Collector, whose intervention has helped achieve the desired goals of acquisition of land.

The district administration, recently, received a petition from a cross-section of Adi-dravidars of T. Keeranur, pleading for allotment of house-site pattas. The Collector then ordered the immediate utilisation of the piece of land. “For the past five decades, the land, classified as ‘Adi-dravidar natham’ was being maintained by the district administration, without any valid use,” the Collector said, explaining the immediate action taken by the district administration for expeditious allotment of the house-site pattas to the petitioners.

S. Pazhanisamy, District Revenue Officer were among those who were present.
