Some of the efforts that received appreciation were handing over personal belongings lost by passengers on board trains to the owners; shifting passengers in need of immediate medical attention to government hospital; rescuing a woman who attempted to commit suicide by coming in front of a train and uniting her with her husband besides cracking property offence cases.

Addressing the personnel, he exhorted them to discharge their duty with more vigour and motivation. He said a few accused had been detained under Goondas Act by the Railway Police in the current year.

Steps were being taken to arrest a few habitual offenders hailing from Madurai and Dindigul.

The Railway Police had booked five cases relating to drugging of passengers of which accused had been arrested in four cases.

Superintendent of Police Annie Vijaya said the reward for the GRP personnel was in recognition of their service to society and to motivate them further to carry on with their good works.
