Hoardings and banners put up near the police station on the Ammamandapam Road in Srirangam were cleared by the City Corporation employees ahead of the Vaikunta Ekadasi festival.

According to sources, encroachers was given time to clear the hoardings and most of them have complied. Those which were not removed were cleared during the drive.

The need for clearing the encroachment on the stretch between the Rajagopuram and the police station was one of the important topics taken up for discussion during the consultative meeting convened by the district administration last month to discuss about the arrangements for the festival. R. Manoharan, Government Chief Whip, advised the Corporation officials to clear all the encroachments in this area, as a large number of pilgrims are expected to visit the temple.
