Cadre of different Hindu front organisations observed a fast across the Central region on Tuesday urging the State government not to “crush” the democratic rights of the Hindus in Tamil Nadu and in support of their other demands.

Over 1,400 members of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Hindu Munnani besides the Bharatiya Janata Party took part in the day-long fast. The fast was observed in Tiruchi, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Pudukottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam.

The Hindu organisations claimed that although several of their functionaries and leaders were murdered in Tamil Nadu by terrorists, the accused and their accomplices were yet to be arrested. They demanded appropriate steps by the State government to thwart the attacks on Hindu front functionaries in Tamil Nadu and initiate stern measures to check entry of terrorism in the State.

The organisations said properties belonging to various temples were being looted and idols were being stolen and smuggled to overseas countries. It charged the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department of remaining a mute spectator and questioned the rationale of the department in collecting special darshan tickets from devotees.

In Tiruchi city, the fast observed by BJP and other Hindu front organisations at Chinthamani was headed by the RSS district president Selvendran. Around 300 members took part. Police sources said around 500 persons observed fast in Nagapattinam; 200 in Tiruvarur; 100 in Thanjavur and around 190 in Pudukottai.
