Himalayas trek

A group of 35 members, including 20 students, of the Science and Adventure Club, Tiruchi, would embark on the club's 11th annual high-altitude trek to the Himalayas on May 12.

This year, the trek will be to Ruinsara Thal and the Har-ki-Doon valley in the Garhwal Himalayas to the base of Black Peak to reach an altitude of 15,000 feet.

The team which leaves Tiruchi on May 12 would reach Dehradun and start the trek from Sankri, 250 km away from Dehradun. The group will trek for 14 days to reach their destination. The total trek would cover about 100 km. The team will return to Tiruchi on May 30, said J.Ramanan, the team leader.

An 11-year-old boy, Roshan Srinivas from Coimbatore will be the youngest member of the group. This would be his fifth Himalayan trek with the Club members, Mr.Ramanan said. The expedition aims at educating students in preserving nature, Mr.Ramanan said.
