October 09, 2010 03:38 pm | Updated 03:38 pm IST - THANJAVUR:

Thanjavur town recorded the maximum of 250 mms of rainfall in the last 24 hours that ended at 8 a.m. today.

Water stagnated in low lying areas in the town. Because of water logging under low bridge near railway station, traffic was affected for more than an hour.

While the rain is good for samba, it affected the Kuruvai paddy which is in harvest now. Moisture content in Kuruvai paddy may go up and already farmers have been demanding relaxation in the norms for moisture content for Kuruvai paddy by the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation (TNCSC) which is procuring Kuruvai paddy now in the district.

Rainfall recorded in other centres are: Thirukattupalli 109 mms, Budalur 65 mms, Thiruvaiyaru 42 mms, Grand Anicut 39 mms, Anaikarai 40 mms, Papanasam 24 mms.
