‘Healthy family system key to character building'

A healthy family system is key to character building, K.C. Mahali, Inspector General of Police, Central Zone, Tiruchi, said while addressing the inaugural session of the Vigilance Awareness Week celebration of the Southern Railway here on Tuesday.

Delivering the chief guest address, Mr. Mahali blamed the deterioration of values in the consumerist society on break-down of joint family system, and urged elders in family to build the character of youngsters by spending time with them. A. Kaliyamurthy, former Superintendent of Police, Tiruchi, who was invited as distinguished guest, emphasised the importance of education and knowledge for an individual to grow as a person.

Divisional Railway Manager, Tiruchi Division, P.V. Vaidialingam, called for human excellence through self-vigilance.

He advocated introspection for identification and removal of root causes of vices like greed, attachment and ego.

Narendra Kumar, Deputy Chief Vigilance Officer, Electrical, Chennai; M. Sivananda, Chief Transportation and Planning Manager, Chennai; M. Selvaraj, Additional DRM, Tiruchi; and E. Suresh, Assistant Divisional Manager – Finance, also spoke.

The first day of vigilance week was marked by skit performances by teams representing the vigilance unit, Chennai, Divisional Office, Tiruchi; and Zonal Railway Training Institute, Tiruchi. Winners were honoured with prizes.
