As a precautionary measure in the wake of reports of H1N1 cases in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, the State government had stocked up 1.5 lakh Tamiflu tablets to treat the viral infection, said J. Radhakrishnan, Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Department.
Speaking to The Hindu , after a zonal review meeting held at Karur on Saturday, he said the situation was under control in Tamil Nadu. Health officials have been directed to accord top priority for optimum use of human resources to keep communicable diseases under check.
Tamiflu pills, which was prescribed for those with symptoms and also to prevent its spread, had been dispatched to various districts and hospitals in the State. Similarly, isolation wards had been set up in various medical college hospitals, district hospitals and other hospitals. It had sufficient Personal Protective Equipment such as masks, gloves, protective eye wear, hair covers, protective clothing and others.
Dr. Radhakrishnan said the health officials have been asked to keep a watch on those travelling to pilgrim centres in the neighbouring States. They have been directed to send a report on fever cases on a daily basis.
Awareness programme
The department would soon launch sensitisation initiative to create awareness among the people about the H1N1 infection.
