A special camp on non-communicable disease was organised at the Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy memorial headquarters hospital here by the Health Department. Visitors, particularly women aged above 30, were screened for early detection of non-communicable diseases.
Syed Mohideen, Joint Director of Health and Medical Services, V.C. Subash Gandhi, district coordinator of Tamil Nadu Health System Project, explained the importance of early detection of non-communicable disease.
The camp was held to mark the birth anniversary of late Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy.
Staff nurse and nursing college students offered floral tributes to the portrait of Dr. Reddy on the hospital premises. They distributed fruits among the visitors underlining the relevance of lifestyle modification to check the spread of non-communicable disease.
Several service organisations led by Thilagavathiar Tiruvaural Adheenam have urged the State government to build a memorial to honour Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy, the first woman doctor in the country and a social worker in the cause of women’s rights.
A resolution adopted at the valediction of the birth anniversary celebrations organised at the Adheenam here on Wednesday, referred to the services rendered by Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy.
