Headmasters stage protest

January 31, 2013 02:28 pm | Updated 02:28 pm IST - TIRUCHI:

Headmasters of government high schools conducted a demonstration in the city on Tuesday to remind the State government about their demand for continuing with the government order 720 that specifies the promotional avenues for teachers and headmasters.

They wanted the government to increase the post of District Educational Officer in consonance with the existence of 7,000 government high schools. Led by S. Rajendran, Headmaster of government higher secondary school, Thinnanur, the teachers called upon the government to abolish the system of direct recruitment of DEOs.

The order issued in 2009 on the promotion of high school heads and higher secondary school heads in the ratio of 40:35 must be recalled, and all the DEO posts must be filled with eligible candidates among high school heads, they said. The demonstrating headmasters also highlighted their other demands including pay parity with their Central government counterparts, equating the cadre of Deputy Inspectors in education department to that of higher secondary school headmasters, and sanction of Additional Headmaster post in the rank of headmasters in high schools for monitoring the academic functioning of classes VI to X in higher secondary schools.
